Dora Hitz: A Voice for Women in Art
Dora Hitz (1853–1924) was discovered by a German princess in Munich and subsequently established a distinguished international career. She produced award-winning portraits in Paris and Florence, served as a court painter in Romania, held prominent membership in several of the period’s leading artists’ associations, and founded her own painting school in Berlin. Notwithstanding these achievements, her work remains comparatively little known in the Netherlands; this exhibition seeks to redress that omission.
Drents Museum De Buitenplaats presents the first solo exhibition of Hitz’s work in the Netherlands, providing a significant opportunity to consider the scope and importance of her artistic career.
