Manolo Valdés, born in 1942 in Valencia, Spain, is a renowned contemporary artist known for his distinctive style that merges painting, sculpture, and collage. Valdés draws inspiration from art history, reinterpreting iconic works and figures from artists like Velázquez, Rembrandt, and Matisse. His work often explores themes of identity, memory, and the female form, characterized by bold textures and striking forms. A co-founder of the influential art group Equipo Crónica in the 1960s, Valdés' unique approach blends classical influences with modern abstraction, earning him international acclaim. He currently lives and works between New York and Madrid.
